Planting the First Seeds at Ualapue: A Community Space in the Making
This week marked a meaningful milestone — our very first workday at the Ualapue community site. With hands in the soil and hearts aligned with our shared vision, we began the first steps toward transforming this ʻāina into a vibrant space for healing, connection, and resilience.
This community use parcel will become a living resource for the people. We will plant canoe crops like ʻulu (breadfruit), kalo (taro), ʻuala (sweet potato), and kukui — powerful symbols of food sovereignty and abundance. Alongside them, a lāʻau lapaʻau garden will grow to honor the traditional healing practices passed down through our kūpuna.
Our long-term vision includes space for community gatherings, cultural education, and hands-on learning rooted in mālama ʻāina. Bit by bit, one by one, we are building a place that will nourish future generations.
We invite you to be part of this journey. Join our growing ʻohana of volunteers, and help us co-create a space grounded in aloha, kuleana, and resilience.
